Everybody check out Amy's Creative Side and the Blogger's Quilt Festival!
My entry for the quilt festival is the first semi-conplex quilt that resides on my bed (with a store bought blanket covering it because I have dogs that get on my bed). I sit at admire it quite often when I'm making my bed. I still love it. I made this quilt in 1991 when my oldest son was a baby.
I used paper patterns for this quilt - the ''old fashioned way'', making the patterns then tracing them on the material and then adding the seam allowance. I can't believe how tedious that was and I would never again do a quilt that way - but back then I don't think rotary cutters and rulers were really 'known' yet! I used muslin for the backing and warm and natural batting. I quilted it by machine in a 'stitch in the ditch' and a crosshatching in the borders. Well, here it is in all it's purple and fuscia warmth!
Great colors and pattern, you should be very proud of this!
ReplyDeleteKarin...I love and admire quilts made in this fashion...the old methods are wonderful I think. Infact, I prefer to use a sissor, needle and thread and just do things by hand. I guess you don't get things done as quickly but I sure enjoy the journey. The colors are very pretty also. Glad you keep the cats off it. I have a beautiful queen size flower basket quilt that my mom hand quilted and even put a ruffle and lace that hands from the edges, and last year my granddaughter took three markers! and colored my quilt!!! I told her mother that I hope my granddaughter enjoyed doing that to the quilt because she was the one that would be inheriting it from me! LOL Then she can tell her children what she did to her great grandmother's quilt! :)

ReplyDeleteHi Karin,
ReplyDeleteYour quilt still looks great- in wonderful condition - It is amazing what a difference the rotary cutter has made to quilting- I can't imagine being without one now. It just makes being accurate so much easier.
