de-stash sale

I cut a bunch of stash into WOF jelly roll strips and have listed 40-strip 'jelly rolls' in my etsy shop.  Here is the link directly to the listing.  I am asking $12.99 per roll and I have 7 rolls total.
This is a STEAL of a deal!  There is about 2 3/4 yards in a jelly roll - and that makes these less than $5/yard for quality fabrics.  Everything is from the Fat Quarter Shop, no cheapo calico's here.

Jelly Roll Race Remix finish

I basted JRRR yesterday, and quilted like a woman possessed today.  I quilted a free-motion stipple all over and then bound it with leftovers from the center!

I love a scrappy binding, and this is the scrappiest one I've done yet!

And for some news!  Both JRRR and Christmas Ribbons have been shipped off to Moda!  They are borrowing them for an upcoming show in Portland!  I can't wait to see pics of my quilts in their booth!  So exciting!  (They will ship them back to me after the show).

Jelly Roll Race Remix for Moda Bake Shop

Yes, my second Christmas quilt for July!  I guess I was feeling ambitious!  I need to get this one basted/quilted yet, should get the basting done in the next day or two though.

I did another variation of the project done with a jelly roll of Half Moon black/white prints and 20 strips of white and 20 strips of black.  The Half Moon had duplicates of 20 prints, so I divided them in half and made 2 tops with 20 prints, 10 white, and 10 black strips.  Anyhow, I can't for the life of me find the pictures I took of those!  I will have to hunt some more - and if I can't find them, I'll have to work up some EQ drawings I guess.

Wine ice cream

I heard about wine ice cream a few months ago and set out to figure out how to make it on my own.  I am happy to say, I have developed a recipe that is super easy (no ice fream freezer required!) and delicious!

1 cup moscato wine
2 cups whipping cream
1/2 cup sugar

Put ingredients in a blender and blend until it starts to thicken.....round 2-3 minutes.  Pour into freezer container and freeze.  Easy peasy!

Now, this isn't as smooth as a regular ice cream, its a little crystalline because of the wine, but the flavor is fabulous, especially with the addition of some fresh fruit.

I tested it with half and half, and it still works OK, but it feeezes harder and more crystalline.   Heavy cream is good too, but tends to leave a fat residue feeling in your mouth.  Whipping cream is just right and it doesn't freeze too hard.

finished Christmas Ribbons - Moda Bake Shop

I was able to finally finish the quilting on my Christmas Ribbons quilt for the Moda Bake Shop :)

For the first time, I used Aurifil thread to quilt.... and I am now a Aurifil convert!  It ran so smoothly in my machine, I had not one thread break, and my machine even *sounded* quieter!  AND, less 'fluff' in the bobbin area!  I will be using Aurifil for all my quilts from now on!

are the quilt police coming after me?

I bound my quilt before it was finished quilting - are the quilt police going to come after me? Hehe :)

It was fraying at the edges because of all the turning I am doing with the quilting, so I decided to finish the border quilting and bind it before it frayed more.

And, I decided - because of the ''knit sweater'' print, that I would use a zigzag to finish it off (stitched to the back, then zigzag from the front), and I am sure glad I did!  The zigzag blends into that print SO well!  Much better than a straight stitch would I think!

It was SO much easier too.  Bonus!  Only a couple more hours of quilting and I'll be done with this quilt, yay!

Christmas Ribbons quilt top for Moda Bake Shop

I am a little late posting this, but I have cooked up a new project tutorial over at Moda Bake Shop.  At this point, the tutorial only has the quilt top picture posted - I am working feverently trying to get it quilted.  I was supposed to have it done by now, but things happen.   Here is a pic of the quilt top:

A little over a month ago, I broke my big toe (a 2x4 fell on it from about 4' high).  I haven't been able to wear socks and just recently was able to wear shoes that weren't open-toed.  Which also meant, I wasn't able to kneel down on the floor to pin-baste the quilt.  I finally sucked it up and got it basted and am getting close to done on the quilting.  Here are a couple sneak peeks!

I also have another quilt I am working on for the MBS that starts with 2 ''jelly roll race'' quilt tops.  Stay tuned for the outcome later this month :)
